Regardless of whether one is registering a private limited company or a private business corporation, the steps taken in carrying out the name search are virtually the same. The only difference is in the extension of the name i.e. A private limited company name carries the extension PLC whereas a Private Business Corporation carries the extension PBC. This costs $5,00 but remember to make provisions for transaction charges (about $0,56) depending on the method of payment that you will be using. Once the payment has been made, return to the Companies and deeds menu and choose the Request a company name search option. It give you the option to either make a payment or start your name earch. Click on start a name search.
It will ask you to fill in: a.) Your name and surname b.) Your national ID b.) Your designation in the company. You can use any suitable term for your position e.g. Prospector, Founder, Accounting officer or even Chief executive officer. C.) Your province 6.

To provide construction services b.) Choose at least 5 names in the order that you would prefer. Start with your most preferred choice followed by the second best and so on. All names should end with the business type you want to register e.g. “PBC” or “PLC” in the following format: My Zimbabwean Company PBC.
C.) Justification. Write about a sentence or two, explaining why you have chosen and feel you deserve that name.
NB- Try and be creative in coming up with your names and avoid short abbreviations as these might already be taken. Also avoid derogatory or provocative terms as well as names that are close to those of already existing companies. Before submitting, the system will show you whether your chosen names might be available or not, and it is also important to note, that the name might still be rejected if it is deemed similar to that of an already registered company. Submit your names once you are sure and record the reference number that you will be given. This is the one that you will use when following up on your transaction. You can then return to your dashboard and check under “My applications”.
You should then find your transaction and the reference number stating that your application is “open”. The review process should take about 6 days or less. Once approved, your application will now change from “open” to “reserved” in your dashboard. Each name is reserved for about a month to allow you to proceed o the next step. If however, your name is rejected, you will also be notified. Simply restart the name search process and follow the steps given above.
If there is no update in about a week, simply visit the companies registry in Harare or at Tredgold building in Bulawayo with your reference number and request a manual check on the status of your name check application.
